Internet Delivered Course Information.

The following courses may or may not be available this semester.Please check registration to see which courses will be available via distance education:

BCIS1405 and ITSC1307 will be offered on the new WebCT/Vista (Blackboard) Platform. This is different then the old WebCT platform you might have used before. These classes will have an OPTIONAL in-person orientation, though there is still a mandatory online orientation located at http://distance.hccs.edu. All the WebCT courses listed above will be offered in WebCT. The orientation is at http://distance.hccs.edu. All other courses will have orientations located at http://csci.hccs.edu (Click Distance Ed Courses).

All Internet Delivered Course offerings for the Computer Science Technology Department have the following restrictions/requirements: Look at and read all nine (9) items.

1. Students must be very familiar with: Windows XP or Windows Vista (depending on course) -  A word processing software package (usually Word) - An Internet browser (usually Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator)

2. Students must be responsible and ready for independent study. GPA is one of the best indications. Therefore, students must: Have a GPA of 2.5 or better

3. Students CANNOT be in English, Reading or Math remediation. If you have passed the THEA or TASP exam, you qualify. If you have not passed the THEA or TASP, consult with Counseling Department before you register.

4. Computer equipment, software and Internet connection are the responsibility of the student. Our department uses various multimedia oriented items in delivering our courses. Students must have:

5. Students must satisfy course prerequisites. Check Course Listing for "Course Descriptions" on our website: http://csci.hccs.edu.

6. BCIS1405 online students MUST be familiar with the following: Copying, Moving, Deleting, Renaming Files and Folder; Locating Files/Folders on your PC; understanding file extensions; Basic Window Terminology. More information in your online orientation. Check with your instructor if you have questions.

7. Orientations for the courses will be available 2-3 days before the first day of class.

8. If you do NOT meet the above requirements, you should NOT register for any of these courses via distance ed. Please sign up for the course in a classroom setting.
